OK...it's just not fun to cover football anymore. I'm getting nothing out of it. I'll post some videos before the Egg Bowl or something, but it's hard to get excited about a trainwreck.
That being said, it's BASKETBALL SEASON, baby! This blogger is ready to post about it. Here is a recap of what has happened this season.
EXHIBITION GAME
Mississippi State: 88
Montevallo: 59
EXHIBITION GAME
Mississippi State: 67
Oklahoma City: 65
GAME #1
Mississippi State: 77
Centenary: 55
Our boys look good. As much as I miss Charles Rhodes and Jamont Gordon, when they were here, they were our team. It was Charles and Jamont and three other people. However, this team is five guys working together. The Centenary game saw a lot of line changes (changing the entire five guys on the court). There was never a one-for-one substitution...Coach Stans would change out all five. Honestly, you could never tell. There was no change in talent or aggressiveness. Any five guys that Stans put on the court were five guys who could play cohesively. This is going to be very important this season, especially once we get to SEC play.
Media outlets have put State as finishing fourth in the SEC West. I think we can do better.
Players to watch:
RAVERN JOHNSON - He has stepped up and has been playing like a man. We are going to have to rely a lot on his leadership. I'm looking for him to be our big offensive player.
ELGIN BAILEY - Dare I saw, the new Beast? Elgin played like it on Saturday. He had some mega-dunks that were very Charles Rhodes. He is very aggressive. I'm looking for Elgin to be a big man for us.
BRIAN JOHNSON - Unfortunately, Brian is out for four to six weeks with a foot/ankle injury. He walked near the student section on Saturday, so I said, "Aww BJ...come on, man." He responded, "I know, man. It's so sad." I could tell he was truly sad. Can you imagine being a senior on an NCAA basketball team and missing the first four to six weeks? Look for him to come out roaring when he gets better.
Come out to the HUMP tonight (Louisiana-Monroe) and Wednesday (North Alabama...round one of the Legends Tournament) at 7 for men's basketball action. Unfortunately, due to group meetings for a class, this blogger will not be at either. I'll give as much of a recap as I can on Friday morning-ish.
As always, Hail State!
